GPA Guide
What GPA is needed for honor roll?
Requirements vary by institution, but typically: Cum Laude requires a 3.5+ GPA, Magna Cum Laude 3.7+, and Summa Cum Laude 3.9+. Dean's List usually requires a 3.5+ for a given semester.
How are credit hours factored into GPA?
Each course grade is multiplied by its credit hours to produce quality points. Your GPA = total quality points ÷ total credit hours. A 3-credit A (4.0) contributes 12 quality points, while a 3-credit C (2.0) contributes only 6.
How do I calculate my cumulative GPA?
Cumulative GPA weights all courses across all semesters. Use the Cumulative GPA section above: enter your previous GPA and total credits earned, then add this semester's courses. The calculator combines them proportionally. For example: 60 previous credits at 3.2 GPA + 15 new credits at 3.6 GPA = new cumulative GPA of 3.29 (75 total credits).
